The heroes' paths converged in the winding forest trails, with Lilly having lost her bearings and Harry going in circles in an effort to find Crystal Beth when he stumbled upon the group. They were making their way across the old bridge, still carting their bound New Dawn artificer on the back of a weary donkey, and with Dave the recovering cultist, when disaster struck in the most absurd fashion.
Dug, muttering about his lot in life, managed to stumble and reflexively slap the donkey's rump. The startled beast promptly bucked, tossing the artificer over the edge to plunge into the river below. He came spluttering back to the surface to be pulled from the water by a fellow on a supply-laden raft on the riverbank. After some frantic screaming the bonds of the artificer were cut and the pair began punting down stream. Sharp-eyed Dug spotted the New Dawn insignia on the raft's cargo, which set him off again complaining about being underappreciated.
After some debate the party decided they should recover the lost alchemist. The chase that followed was pure chaos on water. Mort put his makeshift bow to good use, peppering both escapees with arrows whilst Brenda commandeered another laden raft. Dug was first to the water, but slipped in the mud and fell in a tangle. Orm clambered aboard just as Harry gave a mighty shove that sent the raft spinning wildly, flinging Harry backwards onto the bank. Meanwhile, their quarry was enduring a flurry of arrows while desperately rummaging through supplies, abandoning a short bow and hurling a potion that exploded harmlessly in a puff of white energy.
Through the churning rapids, Orm somehow managed to guide their raft alongside the artificer's vessel. Brenda leapt across like a seasoned river pirate whilst Mort scooped up the floating bow. Orm joined Brenda making the raft unstable with too much weight on it, which Brenda promptly solved by tossing the driver into the water and his death as he cracked his head on a rock in the rapids. Persuaded by Brenda's silvered tongue and his companion's grisly fate, the artificer submitted himself to recapture.
The long slog back upstream proved worthwhile when they discovered valuable supplies amongst the cargo. Back in Auschental, they handed over their prisoner to Agnis Moonshaw and the Artificers Guild before enjoying some well-earned rest. Orm struck it rich at the gambling tables and spent accordingly, while Brenda's attempt at impromptu stand-up comedy earned her nothing but jeers and a swift exit from the tavern stage.
