Auschental's prison sits atop a gentle slope on the city's northeastern outskirts, with the fjord and docks district stretching to the northwest, and towering mountains encircling the views from the north all around to the southeast. It is constructed well enough to deter escape attempts.
Beyond the outer gatehouse, the armoury and barracks sits to one side, the cell blocks in the centre, the Overseer’s building around the other side, and the pumping station to the rear. Pipes lead under the prison, providing fresh water. Tunnels accompany the pipes for maintenance purposes. Some of them lead to dead ends, while one nearly impossible to find route leads out to the docks district.
The City Watch are tasked with running and guarding the prison. The Abbey of the Allseeing keeps office so Overseers can accept confessions, extract intelligence from prisoners and guards, and perhaps exercise some kind of power.
The cell blocks are constructed of stone with iron-barred windows allowing natural light to filter in. The corridors are clean and well-organised, ensuring efficient movement and separation of inmates. Torches illuminate the outer corridors, their flickering light casting shadows that dance across the weathered stone walls and through the iron bars of the cells. Each cell door is fitted with mundane locks, and there is a hard, narrow cot and a bucket in the corner.
