| Denizens | #### Proprietor Marta Tidecaller - A sturdy woman in her middle ages whose mother arrived on one of the founding ships. Marta grew up hearing stories of the old world and the treacherous crossing, and she serves as an unofficial keeper of the district's oral history. She has an uncanny ability to predict weather changes and tidal shifts, skills that make her invaluable to the fishing community. Her tavern serves as much as a community centre as a drinking establishment. #### Atmosphere & Clientele The tavern serves as the unofficial heart of the Docks District's community. Fishermen gather here before dawn to share information about weather and fishing grounds, while their families arrive in the evening to share meals and stories. The atmosphere is warm and communal rather than secretive - everyone knows everyone else's business, and newcomers are welcomed with cautious curiosity rather than suspicion. Conversations flow between practical matters of nets and tides to nostalgic tales passed down from the founding generation. |
| Design | #### Exterior The tavern's facade tells the story of both Auschental itself and the hard-won wisdom of rebuilding - constructed primarily from the hull planking and masts of decommissioned settler vessels, the building bears the scars and character of ocean voyages, but also incorporates wider-spaced construction and stone firebreaks learned from the district's previous losses. A ship's figurehead, worn smooth by weather and time, serves as the tavern's sign above the main entrance - notably, it's the same figurehead that survived both previous fires. Typically, fishing nets hang drying from the second-story eaves, while small boats in various stages of repair rest against the building's sides. The entrance is marked by a pair of heavy oak doors salvaged from a captain's cabin, their brass fittings green with patina but their hinges recently reinforced. #### Notable Features - **Food & Drink:**The tavern specialises in hearty, simple fare: fish stews, seaweed bread, and preserved foods that sustain working families. Local fish is prepared in traditional styles passed down from the settler generation, while the rare imported ingredients from trading vessels are saved for special occasions. The house speciality is "Founder's Brew," a strong ale made from recipes brought from the old country - The Founder's Table: A large round table near the hearth, carved from a ship's capstan, where the district's eldest residents gather to share stories of the early settlement days - Message Board: A cork board made from ship's hull where fishing crews post notices about crew positions, boat repairs needed, and other events - The Tide Bell: An old ship's bell that the proprietor rings to mark the changing tides - Memory Wall: Faded portraits and personal effects from the original settler families, including some who never made it past their first winter in Auschental, alongside a small shrine commemorating those lost in the district's fires - both the tavern fires and the great warehouse blaze of years past #### Interior Layout Main Common Room: The heart of the tavern features a massive hearth built from ballast stones. Weathered tables crafted from ship's planking accommodate the district's working folk. Ship's lanterns provide warm, flickering light, while the low-beamed ceiling incorporates the curved ribs of old vessels. The walls display maritime artefacts - ship wheels, brass instruments, and faded charts of distant waters that few now remember, including a few salvaged items that survived the previous fires. The Bar: Constructed from a single piece of ship's timber, polished smooth by decades of use, the bar stretches along one wall beneath shelves holding bottles of local spirits, imported rum from the rare trading vessel, and ceramic jugs of the district's own fish-based broth that serves as both soup and hangover cure. Harbour Room: A smaller side room with large windows overlooking the active docks, favoured by those conducting business or waiting for boats to return. Tables here are positioned to watch the comings and goings of the fishing fleet. Upper Lodging: Simple but clean rooms for traders, fishermen, or locals who've had too much to safely navigate the district's uneven walkways. |

Tavern Number Three earned its pragmatic name after its two predecessors succumbed to the fires that periodically sweep through the Docks District's closely-packed wooden structures. Built from the timber of the very ships that brought Auschental's first refugees to these shores, this retains the district's maritime character. The tavern occupies a rambling two-story structure that seems to have grown organically over the decades, with additions and repairs creating a patchwork of weathered wood, salvaged ship parts, and practical necessity. Salt-stained windows look out over the active fishing docks, while the building's foundation incorporates massive ship timbers that have settled into the sandy soil.
